Arlathirnda Ngurkarnda Ityirnda, Being Knowing Doing Decolonising Indigenous Tertiary Education
Arlathirnda Ngurkarnda Ityirnda is authored by Dr Veronica Arbon, Batchelor Institute’s first Aboriginal Director at a time when the organisation was first emerging as an independent Institute. The book’s title is from Arbon’s Arabana language. This publication “points to the struggles that emerge when change is made in the core knowledge-production and transmission work of Indigenous tertiary education”. The book is based on Arbon’s Ph.D thesis and draws strongly on her work at, and the example of, Batchelor Institute. Arbon is the first to admit the book’s density of ideas which she has attempted to pare back with this second edition. Part of its appeal is the work’s reliance on her Arabana worldview which is reflected in the book’s steady use of Arabana language and concepts. With a refreshed layout, this second edition introduces more visual elements to the book including a rich selection of Arbon’s majestic photographs of Arabana Country. The book’s first edition was published in 2008 by Post Pressed.
