Jirigi Jinda Ardangarri, Burnarri Anja, Diigu Aagala - Birds
Jirigi Jinda Ardangarri, Burnarri Anja, Diigu Aagala – Birds: tells us the names of birds in Ngarinyin, Worrorra and Wunambal Gaambara languages. The bird’s moiety, and the spiritual and seasonal knowledge associated with some birds gives an insight into the cultural importance of some birds for Ngarinyin, Worrorra and Wunambal Gaambara people. The amazing photographs generously donated by many photographers assist in enhancing the knowledge share by Elders. Jirigi Jinda Ardangarri, Burnarri Anja, Diigu Aagala is the first book to include the three languages of people living at Mowanjum Community.
There are 195 birds recorded in this book, however as Pansy Nulgit said, ‘there are birds that are known and seen in our country, but there might not be names for them’. The languages are colour coded to provide ease of access to each language. There is also a set of accompanying posters in each language: Jirigi jinda ardangarri, Diigu aagala, Burnarri Anja
